Practical

Practical

If you’re planning a trip to Nepal and have chosen this unique tour featuring the Chepang Hills trek, thorough preparation is key. Here you’ll find practical information to help you set off with peace of mind. From what to pack for the trek to details about meals, transportation, and accommodations: this way, you’ll know exactly what to expect.

  • What kind of luggage should I bring on the Chepang Hills trek?

You’ll only bring a small daypack with your personal belongings. Your larger suitcase or bag will be safely stored in the vehicle or at your hotel. During the Chepang Hills trek, a porter will carry everything you need for the hike, and you can also leave the rest safely at the hotel.

  • What kind of shoes are suitable for hiking?

Sturdy hiking boots with good traction are essential. Trails in the Chepang Hills can be muddy or steep.

  • What kind of clothes should I pack for this trip?

Layering is ideal. It can get warm during the day, while it can cool down significantly in the hills in the evening. If you’re traveling during the winter months, you should also bring a winter coat for the evenings.

  • What are the accommodations like during the trek?

You’ll stay in simple homestays with basic amenities. There is a modern bathroom with a Western-style toilet. What makes this experience special is the hospitality of the Chepang families and the chance to get a close-up look at their way of life.

  • Which meals are included?

Most meals are included during the Chepang Hills trek and in Chitwan. In cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, you can choose from the many restaurants available.

  • What about drinking water and health?

Always drink bottled water or use a water filter. You can have your water bottle refilled with drinking water at any accommodation. Bring basic medication for stomach and intestinal issues and use insect repellent.

  • How is transportation arranged during the trip?

You’ll be traveling by private car with a driver. Keep in mind that travel times may be longer due to the mountain roads, but there’s plenty to see and do along the way.

  • When is the best time to go on the Chepang Hills trek?

Spring (March–May) and fall (October–November) are ideal. The air is clear, temperatures are pleasant, and the chance of rain is low. December and January are also good options.

  • Can I interact with the locals?

The Chepang speak very little English, but a smile, a few basic words of Nepali, and an open attitude go a long way toward building a connection. Your host does speak basic English.

  • Are there any optional activities during the trip?

Yes. In Pokhara and Bandipur, you’ll have free time to enjoy activities such as a boat ride, a bike ride, or an extra hike. You can arrange these in advance or on the spot.
