You begin your adventure with a visit to the ancient temple of Changu Narayan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and continue your journey through charming Nagarkot, famous for its panoramic views. The trek continues to Dhulikhel, another vantage point where you can see the mountains and the valley in the distance. Namobuddha, an important Buddhist pilgrimage site, is a spiritual stop not to be missed. You then walk through Balthali, a quiet village that exudes the feel of traditional Nepal, and finish the trek in Panauti, a historic town famous for its architecture and culture. During this trek, you’ll not only get to experience nature, but also Nepal’s rich culture and hospitable people.

  • Day 1: Drive to Changu Narayan, trek to Nagarkot

    Arrival and transfer to Nagarkot via Changu Narayan

    After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kathmandu and travel to Changu Narayan, one of Nepal’s oldest Hindu temples, situated on a hilltop with stunning views over the Kathmandu Valley. Here you can discover Nepal’s rich history and culture. After your visit to Changu Narayan, you will begin the trek to Nagarkot. The route takes you through picturesque villages and offers fantastic views of the valley and the Himalayas. Once you arrive in Nagarkot, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains and the sunset.

    A remarkable fact about the Changu Narayan Temple is that it is considered the oldest Hindu temple still in use in the Kathmandu Valley. The temple is dedicated to the god Vishnu and dates back to the 4th century, making it one of the oldest monuments in Nepal. It is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The temple is famous for its beautiful architecture and the rich collection of statues and inscriptions that highlight its cultural and religious significance throughout the centuries.

  • Day 2: Trek to Dhulikhel

    Today begins with a climb to the Nagarkot viewing tower. From this tower – on a clear day – you’ll have a fantastic view of the Himalayas and the entire Kathmandu Valley. This is the perfect moment to enjoy the panoramic views and the fresh mountain air! The trail then leads you through picturesque villages and lush forests. In clear weather, you can admire the eastern side of the Himalayas, which makes today even more magical. The route is not only breathtaking but also gives you a wonderful opportunity to experience daily life in the local villages.

    Dhulikhel is one of the oldest towns in the Kathmandu Valley. It is known for its traditional architecture and the view of the Himalayas, which is beautifully visible from here. What makes it extra special is that Dhulikhel is an important center for the Newar people, an ethnic group with a rich cultural and religious history. Moreover, the town has managed to preserve its authenticity by minimizing the influences of modern development, allowing visitors to experience the atmosphere of old Nepal. In Dhulikhel, you can also visit the famous Kali Mandir (Kali Temple), which is both religiously and historically significant to the region.

  • Dag 3: Trek to Namobuddha (1982m)

    Today you trek to Namobuddha, an important Buddhist pilgrimage site. The walk leads you through picturesque fields and villages, and you reach the famous Namobuddha Monastery. This monastery is situated on a hill and offers a beautiful view over the valley. It is a serene place, ideal for meditating and finding peace.

  • Dag 4: Trek to Balthali (1730m)

    Today we continue our journey to Balthali. We walk between terraced fields and orchards full of oranges. We pass through several villages, where we once again get a glimpse into the daily life of the locals. In Balthali itself, you can visit a few temples and enjoy a fantastic view of the surrounding hills. On a clear day, you can also see some of the highest peaks in the Himalayas from here.

    Tip for families in Balthali:
    Balthali is a wonderful place for families looking for peace and adventure in the great outdoors. A lovely river flows near the village, where children can play to their heart’s content. The clear water is perfect for a refreshing dip or simply sitting by the bank and enjoying the view. It is a perfect spot for a family outing in the countryside, where both children and adults can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Don’t forget to bring some snacks for a picnic by the river!

  • Day 5: Trek to Panauti | Drive to Kathmandu

    Distance: approx. 7 km
    Walking time: approx. 2-3 hours

    Today you will walk to Panauti, a historic city famous for its ancient temples and narrow streets. Panauti has a charming, old-world atmosphere, and you can visit various interesting sights here, such as the Indreshwar Temple and the Panauti Temple. The city is on the tentative UNESCO World Heritage List. It is a peaceful city where you can discover the culture and history of Nepal.

    Should you wish to stay an extra night here, that is certainly possible. This is an ideal location to try out a stay in a community homestay and learn more about the local lifestyle.
